Matthew is a Manager in the Forensics & Investigation Services team in Belfast. He is a qualified Solicitor of some 13 years’ experience with a specialism in electronic Discovery (“eDiscovery”) and Legal Technology.
Matthew completed his undergraduate degree at Queen’s University Belfast in 2001 and gathered significant legal experience in Northern Ireland before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2009, specialising in the defence of Litigation claims. Since 2011 Matthew has practiced in the area of eDiscovery and Legal Technology. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Matthew was a member of the eDiscovery Management Team at one of the world’s largest litigation law firms, and was Head of eDiscovery at one of Ireland’s largest law practices.
Sector experience
Matthew has significant experience in eDiscovery exercises both in Ireland and internationally. He has led review teams on legal document review projects on some of the largest discovery exercises in the UK and Ireland. He has represented clients in eDiscovery cases throughout the world, including Ireland, UK, USA, Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East- and has experience in all areas of eDiscovery and legal document review, from the position of document reviewer, through to team leader with supervisory responsibility for review project management and also from the technical side, administering document review projects from a technological perspective using multiple specialist software applications.
More recently, Matthew has been involved in the development and growth of the eDiscovery industry in Northern Ireland, advising law firms, corporations and regulatory bodies on issues of eDiscovery and their applicability to Northern Ireland legal practice
